Jayasinghe, Lakshan win as Weightlifters, Wrestlers misses Gold – #SAG2016 Day 2

Jeevan Jayasinghe and P.L.H.Lakshan won Gold Medals in the Men’s 60km Criterium event and Wushu Changquan event respectively while the weightlifters and wrestlers missed out on a few gold medals on day 2 of the 2016 South Asian Games.

Wushu

P.L.H.Lakshan won the Gold Medal in the Wushu Changquan event for men. He scored 8.86 points while Bijay Sinjali of Nepal won the silver medal with 8.80 points. India’s Anjul Namdeo won the bronze with 8.66 points.

Wrestling

In the men’s 70kg bronze medal match T.S.K.Maduranga bounced back to win by fall even though he was behind 5-4 on points to Ali Amzad of Bangladesh.

D.K.Weerabahu had to settle for the Silver Medal in the women’s 58kg category as she was soundly beaten 10-0 by India’s Manju Kumari.

India’s Mamata defeated Sri Lanka’s A.K.Wijesinghe 4-0 in the gold medal match of the women’s 53kg category.

R.Fernando missed out on a Bronze Medal as he was defeated 14-4 by Ali Mohamed of Afghanistan in the men’s 61kg category.

Weightlifting

Indika Chathuranga Dissanayake was cruelly denied the Gold Medal in the Men’s 69kg weight class as his weight was more than the eventual gold medal winner after both of them lifted equal weights.

Chathuranga lifted 128kgs in snatch and 153kgs in clean and jerk while Sambo Lapung of India lifted 123kgs in snatch and 158kgs in clean and jerk as Chathuranga settled for the Silver Medal. Both were tied with a total of 281kgs but since Chathuranga’s body weight was 200g more than Lapung’s 68.8kg.

In the men’s 77kg weight class former Commonwealth Champion Chinthana Geethal Vidanage won the silver medal. His snatch effort was 133kgs and the clean and jerk was 167kgs. Ajay Singh of India who won the gold medal lifted 136kgs in snatch and 169kgs in the clean and jerk.

Ayesha Dharmasena won the silver medal in the women’s 63kg weight class lifting a total weight of 138kgs. Her snatch was 63kgs while the clean and jerk was 75kgs. Bangladesh’s Mabia Aktar won gold with 67kgs in snatch and 82kgs in the clean and jerk.

In the women’s 69kg weight class Chathurika Priyanthi won the bronze medal lifting a total weight of 161kgs. Her snatch effort was 71kgs and the clean and jerk was 90kgs. Bangladesh’s Sathy Sultana won the silver with 75kgs in snatch and 94kgs in the clean and jerk. India’s Rakhi Haler won the gold medal with her snatch being 86kgs and the clean and jerk 108kgs.

Umeira Mohideen won the Bronze Medal in the women’s 58kg weight class on day two (Sunday) of the 2016 South Asian Games.

Umeira looking to continue Sri Lanka’s momentum after a successful haul of 21 medals on the first day narrowly missed out on a Silver Medal. Umeira lifted 61kgs in snatch and 81kgs in the clean and jerk.

Fullapati Chakma (Bangladesh) who won the Silver lifted 63kgs in snatch and 81 kgs in the clean and jerk. India’s Saraswati Raut won the Gold lifting 80kgs in snatch and 107kgs in the clean and jerk.

Cycling

Jeevan Manjula Jayasinghe won Men’s 60km Criterium event to bag the Gold Medal while Naveen Ruchira Appuhamy finished in the Silver Medal position.

In the Women’s 40km Criterium event Sudarika Priyadarshani finished in third position to collect the Bronze Medal.
