Court to investigate corruption in Karate Federation

Colombo District Judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi yesterday after considering the plaint filed against the activities of Sri Lanka Karate Federation issued notice on President and Secretary of the Federation returnable on 24 January.

 

Plaintiffs T.K. Somapala, Treasurer and W.A. Sudathpriya Jayantha, Assistants Treasurer in their plaint stated that President A.A. Abeysekera and Secretary K.K.P. Satharasinghe had committed frauds and corruptions abusing their designations of the federation.

Court in response to the plaintiffs request ordered to second defendant Secretary, Satharasinghe to produce all the relevant documents pertaining to the alleged corruption set to be done by the defendants.

Plaintiffs alleged that defendants act unlawfully and summoned illegal annual general meeting violating the constitution and laws of the federation to expel properly elected plaintiffs from the federation.

In their plaint plaintiff states that the defendant has taken Rs. 210,000 fraudulently from the funds of federation and Sports Ministry came to know about the first defendant’s fraudulent and unlawful activities and informed him to prevent from doing such improper activities.

Further, plaintiffs states that the first defendant has taken all accounts and accounts books to his custody.

Plaintiffs request the Court to issue interim injunction preventing first defendant from acting as President of the Federation until the conclusion of the case. Plaintiffs also request the Court to declare that first defendant has committed corruption and fraud to the federation.
