Sri Lanka made light work of their chase of 137 on day five of the second Test, beating Pakistan by nine wickets in Dubai to take a one-nil series lead with a game to play.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva had no problems with the chase after Pakistan were all out for 359 before lunch, with the former still in the middle at the end with 62 not out.
Pakistan began the day on330 for seven, with Sarfraz Ahmed the man set on a half century. He could only add four more runs to his score though, before being removed by Suranga Lakmal for 74.
The long-haired paceman added two more wickets to his tally, ending the innings with the wickets of Saeed Ajmal and Rahat Ali. This left Sri Lanka needing to chase a deficit of 137 runs with more than 80 overs to go.
The visiting openers did not do anything other than play the ball on its merits, and were soon on their way to a century stand, with both men scoring half tons. Ajmal took the chase’s lone wicket, removing Silva for 58.
Karunaratne and Kumar Sangakkara, who made nine, saw out the match in 46-odd overs, leaving the Pakistanis will all to play for in Sharjah in four days’ time.
