Trinity College completed a hat-trick of victories for the current season as they trounced Bandaranayake College Gampaha by an innings and 46 runs in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy today.
The Trinitians who earlier had back to back outright wins over St. Aloysius College Galle and Nalanda College respectively produced another inspiring performance to emerge victorious by a very convincing margin.
In fact their success was always there from the moment they bundled out their opponents for a paltry 116 runs in the first innings following some penetrative bowling from their spin duo of Raveen Sayer and Charith Sudaraka.
Off spinner Raveen Sayer’s performance had a great amount of significance considering the fact that this was the third successive occasion that he was able to claim a five wicket haul for the current season.
The Sri Lanka youth cap continued his outstanding form this year with another match winning performance while his partner Charith Sudaraka added the finishing touches by claiming six wicket haul in the second innings.
In fact it turned out to be a keen contest for supremacy between the two spinners Raveen Sayer and Charith Sudaraka who looked almost unplayable while sharing the bulk of the wickets in both innings.
But it was Charith Sudaraka who eventually had the final laugh as he ripped through the Bandaranayake College second innings in just 51 overs while returning excellent figures of six wickets for 26 runs.
The only bright spot for Bandaranayake College was the fine batting performance of H. Adhikari who made a desperate attempt to avoid the inevitable by stroking a fighting unbeaten half century under tremendous pressure.
Earlier Trinity College produced another splendid batting display to reach a formidable 271 for 8 wickets while building up a huge first innings lead of 155 runs.
They had another flying start to the innings with the openers Madawa Munaweera (34) and Arjuna Jayasinghe (62) laying the foundation with some aggressive batting which was later consolidated by their middle order.
In fact the task of building the innings was executed to near perfection by their two most experienced players Chatura Jayasundera and Charith Sudaraka who went on to complete a memorable double following his heroics with the ball.
Bandaranayake College: 116 (S. Asanga 35, Raveen Sayer 5/45 Charith Sudaraka 2/25) and 109 (H. Adhikari 60 n. o, Charith Sudaraka 6/26)
Trinity College: 271-8 decl (Madawa Munaweera 34, Arjuna Jayasinghe 62, Chatura Jayasundera 68, Charith Sudaraka 56 n. o, W. Chamodana 3/79, B. Hettiarachchi 3/70)
