Coming off a tough transfer window, Navy will look to their new recruits to strengthen their team. Even though they lost many big name players such as Bilal Hassan, Chamara Dabare, Henry Terence and Sharo Fernando, they will have to turn to the likes of Stephan Gregory, Omalka Gunaratne and Pium Jayasinghe to maintain the high standards of the club.

Last Season

Navy will be looking to better their position in the league table this season after they finished 2nd in the league table in 2014/ 2015. Last season was a pleasing one even though they lost to Kandy SC and were also given a scare by CR at home. The Sailors would want to better their second place finish from last season and will fight to grab the league title this year.

Players to watch

Navy SC Players to Watch Chanaka Chandimal: Playmaker Chanaka Chandimal aka ‘Meeya’ will look to steer the ship this time around with more control as he calls the shots from the Fly Half position. He would also look to contribute more to the attacking side of the team.

Dhanushka Perera: AKA Gertha, a key figure at the break down, he will look to stick his head into where most would not and look to inspire his team from the number 07 position.

Dhanushka Pushpakumara: Playing a key role linking the backs to the forwards, the little scrum half ‘Pukke’ who is an indomitable character will as always add colour to the league. He will look to add his experience to the youngsters and make key decisions in the breakdowns.

Coaching
Nilfer Ibrahim – the veteran coach needs no introduction having coached so many champion school sides.  However the slightly demure Navy side packed with school boys will be a new challenge, following a successful season with Isipathana College.
Navy will vouch to put the loss of many big name players behind them and take the league head-on with their young brigade. There may be some surprises in store as the youngsters pit themselves against the senior squads in the Dialog Rugby League 2015/2016.

Stephan Gregory: The outstanding Prop forward from St. Joseph’s College will look to add his weight at the scrum and carry the ball with force as he makes his club debut in this year’s Dialog Rugby League.

Omalka Gunaratne: The standout player of the school season, Omalka Gunaratne may become the go-to man for the team from the bench as he attempts to make trade mark runs and bust tackles for Navy. His input from the bench is a mouth watering prospect to look forward to in this year’s League.

Chathura Dilshan: Dishan was part of the U20 junior national side last year and this year. He can play anywhere in the pack. He is versatile, strong and fast also who can make a good use of kicks at the uprights. Both him and Omalka has done a yeoman service to the green army.
