Badureliya Cricket club pulled off a morale boosting four wicket victory over the CCC in their SLC Premier limited overs cricket tournament group ‘A’ encounter worked off at Maitland Crescent yesterday.
After they were set a tough victory target Badureliya CC put up a tremendous batting performance to overtake their opponent’s total of 201 runs with four wickets and four overs to spare with Hashan Guanthilake leading the run chase.
The elegant opening batsmen led from the front while stroking a splendid 63 from 95 deliveries and with the help of one six and three boundaries while also putting on an opening stand of 57 runs along with his partner Chalitha Halambage.
Badureliya CC of course suffered a middle order collapse thereafter but yet they managed to squeeze in and reach their target with the assistance of their late order batsmen in the 46th over.
Earlier the CCC recovered from an early setback to build up a healthy total at the end mainly due to the individual brilliance of Chamara Silva who hit a magnificent 110 from 114 deliveries studded with one six and eleven boundaries.
The CCC would have struggled to reach even one hundred and fifty runs if not for Chamara Silva’s fighting century as he played the sheet anchor role before becoming the last batsman to be dismissed in the 48th over of the innings.
The middle order batsman walked into the crease at a vital stage of the innings after the CCC who were put into bat had lost three early wickets against the hostile pace of Wikum Sanjaya.
However Chamara Silva steadied the innings through some intelligent batting under tremendous pressure with only Lasith Abeyratne and Chaturanga Kumara providing some kind of assistance.
CCC: 201 in 47.5 overs (Chamara Silva 110, Thilina Thushara 2/39, Wikum Sanjaya 3/39, Andy Solomons 2/30)
Badureliya CC: 202-6 in 46 overs (Chalitha Halambage 36, Hashan Gunathilake 63, Andy Solomons 27, Maduka Liyanapathiranage 2/33)
