Prima sunrise bread to sponsor “Sri Lanka junior open golf championship 2013”
This year’s Sri Lanka junior open Golf championship sponsored by prima sunrise bread for the sixth consecutive year will be held from December 16th to December 18th at the Royal Colombo Golf Club – morning play.
It is the most prestigious event for the young golfers in Sri Lanka. Over 70 players are expected to take part in the event to celebrate the top realms of becoming a junior golfer. Indicating the popularity of the sport today the championship is open to both boys and girls.
Being a tournament held for an age category below 18 it is supposed to perform the role of a platform identifying potential young talent to play at the national level. As the organizers, the Prima in association with RCGC have noticed the upcoming interest towards the sport among the younger generations. They have made it a point to support the junior golf in order to bring in national Golf into a higher standard.
Also noting, past champions at this tournament who have achieved professional level are: Aruna Rohana, Mithun Perera, Lalith Kumara and Tissa Chandradassa. Also Golfers such as Binupa Wijesinghe, Alain Gyi, Ranil Pieris and Rusi Captian have all gone on to become Sri Lanka’s top golfers. The defending champion of the tournament is Sachin de Silva of ACBT, Colombo.
This event will be conducted according to the following age groups; 15-17 years as good decision, 11-14 years as silver division and 10 years and under as bronze division. The overall winner will be declared the Sri Lanka junior national Golf champion for the year 2013.
Prima Sunrise is the main sponsor of the event providing all the players nutritious supplements during the tournament with. The brand has committed to build up a long term relationship with the SLGU. Today it had been the key driver in promoting sports among youth and uplifting the standard of junior Golf in Sri Lanka.
Earlier this year Prima sunrise supported the SLGU sponsoring the first ever regional junior open tournament at Sri Lanka’s internationally designed Victoria Golf and country resort in Kandy and followed up with taking the main sponsorship for the regional junior open held at picturesque Eagle Golf links managed by the Sri Lanka Air Force. In 2014 prima will once again sponsor the regional junior open scheduled to take place in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
This year the tournament it likely to see the talents of Lamindu Rainka, Ishara Fernando, Sachi De Silva, Prashan Peiris, Mahisha Hirushan and Tienn Kapilasara battling for the top spot.
