After commanding the game, Sri Lanka suffered a 5 – 4 hard fought loss in the fifth place classification match against Hong Kong at the Men’s AHF Cup 2025.
Sri Lankans were the first to be on the score sheets as Dhammika Ranasinghe successfully nailed a penalty corner at the goal. Hong Kong players wasted no time in counter attacking with an equalizer.

Suresh Rathnayake managed to escalate the Sri Lankan side to a 3 – 1 lead with back to back goals. For another 12 minutes Sri lankans were roaring with opportunities but failed to change the score margin. At the brink of the halftime Hong Kong made a strong comeback by scoring a couple of goals.
Early in the 3rd quarter, Sri Lankans restored the lead by Dhammika Ranasinghe following a penalty corner and it was short lived as Hongkong nailed their fourth.

In the final quarter, Hong Kong wasted a divine opportunity to score as a penalty stroke went astray. But they scored in the 49th minute and grabbed the lead for the first time.
Thereafter valiant effort came from the Sri Lankans but they were unlucky to have a goalless quarter as chances went begging. Finally Hong Kong secured the 5 – 4 lead until the final whistle.
