Schools Rugby League 2025

St. Joseph’s College, one of the powerhouses in Sri Lankan school rugby, had a mixed season last year with three wins and four defeats. They will surely be looking to fight back this season with a talented leadership team, which was officially announced a short while ago.

The lads from Darley Road will be led by Janith Marasingha for the upcoming U-19 Schools Rugby Season. The strong second-row player was an outstanding performer last season, managing to put his name on the scoresheet against the formidable Royal College and Thurstan College lineups. His combination of power and agility will be crucial in uplifting the Joes team in difficult and high-pressure situations.

Beeshma Jayasekara, the team’s regular fly-half, will continue his role this season while also taking on the responsibility of vice-captain. Last year, Beeshma’s trusted boot kept the scorers busy in every game except one. His kicking skills, combined with his game-reading and decision-making abilities, will give the Joes a significant advantage against any opponent.

The Josephians will be trained under the guidance of Dulanjana Wijesinghe, who has been promoted to head coach. The college is optimistic that the former Wesley College, Navy SC, and CR & FC forward—who also previously coached Wesley College and Police SC—will be able to mold these young players into a league-winning team.
