Police Sports Club Dominates Navy SC in 67-19 Victory
Police Sports Club put on a dominant display as they outclassed Navy Sports Club 67-19 in the Mastercard Club Rugby League Plate Segment encounter yesterday (March 8). The high-scoring affair saw Police SC run in 11 tries to Navy SC’s three, securing a commanding victory.
The game kicked off with an early breakthrough from Navy SC’s Isuru Kongahawatta, who capitalized on a handling error in the second minute to dash through the defense and score the opening try. Thilina Weerasinghe successfully converted, giving Navy an early 7-0 lead.
However, Police SC quickly responded in the seventh minute when Udaya Sanjula executed a brilliant kick-and-chase to score their first try, which he successfully converted, leveling the scores at 7-7.
The home team continued their momentum, with Hafiz Thabeeth powering over for a try in the 12th minute from a strong pick-and-go, putting Police SC ahead. Their lead widened in the 16th minute when Akash Madushanka showcased his playmaking ability, setting up a beautiful passage of play before scoring the third try. The conversion was successfully slotted through by the fly-half.

Madushanka was unstoppable, securing his second try in the 23rd minute through another well-executed kick-and-chase from the 22-meter mark. Yohan Peiris continued his kicking accuracy, converting once again to extend the lead.

Navy SC fought back in the 33rd minute when Hashan Madumadawa crossed over for their second try, though the conversion attempt was unsuccessful. However, Police SC finished the first half on a high note as Primesh Danushka executed a clever show-and-go move to score the team’s fifth try, with Peiris adding another conversion.

Police SC continued their impressive performance in the second half, with Fawmy Amad showcasing the power of the forwards by scoring a superb try in the 47th minute. However, the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
Just five minutes later, former Isipathana College skipper Naveen Kanishka produced another brilliant try for the home team, but once again, the conversion was missed.
Navy SC showed some resistance in the 62nd minute as Dimuth Perera crossed over for their third try. This time, Thilina Weerasinghe successfully converted, adding some points to their tally.
In the 66th minute, Fawmy Amad struck again for Police SC, this time selling a beautiful dummy to score right under the posts. Yehan Bulathsinghalage made no mistake with the conversion, further extending their lead.
In the dying minutes of the game, Lahiru Thilakaratne and Udaya Sanjula added the 10th and 11th tries for the home team. Only the last try was successfully converted, this time by Naveen Kanishka.
With a spectacular attacking display, Police SC sealed a dominant 67-19 victory over Navy SC.
