The 75th Battle of the Golds ended in a tame draw, with frequent rain interruptions disrupting play across all three days.
St. Sebastian’s College began the third morning on a positive note, as wicketkeeper-batter Shefan Fernando and Malintha Silva added 40 more runs to their overnight total. Following Silva’s dismissal, young Shenas Hashein joined Fernando to further boost Sebastian’s first-innings score.
Cambrian left-arm spinners Rusandu Silva and Nethul Anuhas showcased their skills, managing to bowl out the Sebastianites for 208 runs.
With a slender lead of 47 runs, St. Sebastian’s came out firing with the ball, dismissing Cambrian skipper Rivith Jayasuriya in the third over. However, from that point on, it was all Prince of Wales College, as their batters batted responsibly and accumulated crucial runs. Oshan Maneesha top-scored with 56, while Deneth Sithumina provided valuable support with a well-made 49.
With the match ending in a draw, St. Sebastian’s College retains the trophy for another year, following their historic victory in the previous edition.
