After having an impressive rugby season by being a headache to many blockbuster teams who were in the fray, D.S Dons are well set in this season to get the glory of a league title. On the course, rugby management of the college has recently announced a strong leadership package to complete the mission.
Vigorous forward Lankesh Wickramasinghe will lead the D.S Senanayake College Rugby outfit in the upcoming school rugby season. Lankesh is a versatile player who can play at the front row as a Hooker and also as an occasional second rower. Last year he was behind the success of D.S rugby with accurately thrown lineouts and offering solid scrums.
Sprinting star Sandeep Lakshan will steer the college in the rugby 7s format while being a Co-Vice captain in the first XV. Additionally Sandeep has been given the task of marshaling the electrified D.S backline who is renowned for having pure pace.
Meanwhile the powerhouse Methila Pieris will serve as another Co-Vice captain of D.S Senanayake rugby outfit. Methila has done a remarkable job during the past season as a Flanker of the side and hoping to replicate his good performance.
Other Co-Vice captain of the team is Rasindu Bandara, who can render his service in both Fullback and Flyhalf positions. Though Rasindu has handed over an uphill task to cover the splendid performance by their ex-skipper Sehanda Umagiliyage, Rasindu is equipped with all the rugby skills which is required to make it possible.
Old Kannangara player and Veteran coach Asela Deshapriya who helped D.S rugby to get away from the “label of underdogs” and to be re-labeled as a “title contender”, will continue his good work for yet another year.
