The much awaited game of two blockbuster sides in Women’s Club Rugby League – 2024/25 clashed at the Navy Grounds, Welisara.
Within a couple of minutes from kickoff, the first try was scored by the Navy following a quick tap taken by Dilrukshi, who unselfishly offloaded the ball to Dasuni de Silva. (Navy 05 – Army 00)
Before long, following a loose pass made by the Army, Dilrukshi Kumari once again intercepted the ball and planted the second try for the Navy. (Navy 10 – Army 00)
The third try of the match came through an excellent work of the line and a scissor pass. (Navy 15 – Army 00)
A few minutes later, the game was intense and some brutal tackles were seen, and the Referee suddenly spotted a dangerous high tackle made by Nilukshi Madhubhashi of Army SC, who was then sin-binned.
Therefore, the Navy capitalised on numerical advantage and the plan was paved with a couple of tries. (Navy 20 – Army 00). Sanjeewani Wijethilaka crossed for the fifth try of the lady sailors.

In the second half, the Navy took the first blood with a under the post try. Here, the Navy speedster Dilrukshi Kumari spotted a gap in the Army defense and speared it with a nippy sidestep. This time, the Navy made a successful conversion attempt. (Navy 32 – Army 00)
After some thrilling action, the Army had a consolation try through Nethmi Sandaruwani. She took a quick tap run, which was benefited by a few missed tackles by the Navy lasses. (Navy 37 – Army 05)
In the dying minutes of the game, both teams battled hard to get another try and to close the game on a high. However, tired bodies made a lot of handling errors, which eventually hindered many try scoring opportunities.
