Two games in the U19 Divison I schools cricket tournament was played today (19th December) across the island.
In the match between Moratu Maha Vidyalaya and Ananda College, Ananda College secured a first-innings victory, thanks to Kithma Withanapathirana’s brilliant all-round performance. In the first innings, he took 4 wickets for just 14 runs and scored 49 runs, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the second innings, he took 6 wickets for only 38 runs. Ashinsa Nainayake also contributed by taking 3 wickets against Moratu Maha Vidyalaya.

For Moratu Maha Vidyalaya, Sanjana Senavirathna scored 40 runs, while Isuru Nidarshana added 34 runs in the second innings. Sandun Sudarshana Suwaris took 2 wickets against Ananda College.

The game between St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy, and Wesley College, Colombo, ended in a draw, with Wesley College leading in the first innings. Skipper Yoshitha Isuranga Udahakotuwa delivered a brilliant knock against Wesley College, scoring an unbeaten 83 runs with 7 fours and 1 six in the first innings. For St. Sylvester’s College, Dinuja Samararathne showcased a superb bowling performance, claiming 6 wickets for just 32 runs.

In response, Wesley College posted 220 runs for 7 wickets. Deneth Sigera displayed an impressive batting performance, scoring an unbeaten 51 runs. Dinuja Samararathne contributed 46 runs, while Rukshan Tharanga added 38 runs for Wesley College. Prabhagaran Ishan took 4 wickets for 73 runs.

In St. Sylvester’s College’s second innings, Kaveesha Chandimal Wijewardhane and Wageesha Hansala each scored 28 runs. Dinuja Samararathne continued his excellent form by taking 4 wickets for 42 runs in St. Sylvester’s second innings.
