Cadmore and Mendis Tear Through Marvels Bowling Attack

With day three being totally washed out without the completion of a single game, rain was expected again for day four as well. As anticipated, the first game between Colombo Jaguars and Kandy Bolts, which was scheduled to be played, was called off due to adverse weather. Nevertheless, fortunately, the remaining couple of games were played as per schedule. 

With skies been cleared the game between Galle Marvels and Jaffna Titans was expected to be fiercesm encounter. As expected the Marvels openers Niroshan Dickwella and Alex Hales got to a flyer in the powerplay. Both of their dominance was cut short due to some brilliant fielding by the Titans. Eventhough the Marvels innings got a decent enough start the Titans bowlers with some dicipline bowling was able to hold the easy run flow of the Marvels with some disciplined bowling. 

It was Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shakib Al Hasan who combined to form a decent partnership, taking the Marvels to a total their bowlers could defend. Also with the help of Maheesh Theeskshana’s and Sadisha Rajapaksha’s lower-order cameos took the Marvels to 105 at the end of their 10 overs. 

Dwain Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers for the Titans with couple of scalps. Nuwan Thusahara and in form youngster Travin Mathew alos played a key role in keeping the Marvels from scoring big. 

In reply, The Titans didn’t waste too much time in reaching their target. Openers Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Kusal Mendis were in a hurry from ball number one. Cadmore’s blistering 21 ball 32 and Mendis’ 16 ball 31 ensured the Titans’ victory. To add the cherry on top Charith Asalanka added the finishing touches to the game with lusty blows. 

There wasn’t much to talk about in the Marvels’ bowling performance, as all of their bowlers went for over ten runs per over, except for Luke Wood, who was exceptional with the new ball.

Result – Jaffna Titans won by 7 wickets 

The final game of the day was played between the Nuwara Eliya Kings and the Hambantota Bangla Tigers. The Tigers, with an impressive bowling performance, managed to restrict the Kings to a mere 82 runs in their 10 overs. Skipper Saurabh Tiwary and Benny Howell’s cameos were the standout batting performances in their innings.

England international Richard Gleeson wreaked havoc with the ball as he grabbed 3 wickets, while Dhananjaya Lakshan’s economical spell with the new ball made it really difficult for the Kings to get going.

Kusal Perera and skipper Dasun Shanaka marched the Tigers to victory with their blistering knocks. Kusal Perera made a 15-ball 33 which included four 4s and two 6s. The ask from the Kings bowlers was a bit too much as they didn’t have much on the board to defend.
