Travin Mathew’s match-defining 4-wicket haul set up a winning start for the Jaffna Titans in the opening game of the inaugural Lanka T10 Super League, as they defeated the Hambantota Bangla Tigers by 8 wickets in Pallekele. The second match ended without a result, while the Galle Marvels also began their campaign with a comprehensive victory over the Kandy Bolts.

Hambantota Bangla Tigers vs Jaffna Titans, 1st Match

After winning the toss, Jaffna Titans skipper David Wiese chose to bowl first in the opening match of the Lanka T10 Super League 2024. The Tigers suffered an early blow as Kusal Perera was dismissed on the very first ball. However, Dasun Shanaka launched a brilliant counter-attack, punishing the bowlers and racing to a fifty in just 16 balls.

However, the introduction of Travin Mathew, combined with some outstanding fielding, turned the game in favor of the Titans. The spinner delivered a match-winning spell, claiming 4 wickets for just 10 runs in his 2 overs. This effort helped restrict the Hambantota Bangla Tigers to 106/8 in their 10 overs, despite being well-placed at 77/1 after 5.1 overs.

The Jaffna Titans comfortably chased down the target with 11 balls and 8 wickets to spare. After being reduced to 32 for 2, a 75-run unbeaten partnership between Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Tom Abell guided them to victory. Kohler-Cadmore was the star of the innings, smashing an unbeaten 57 off just 21 balls.

Nuwara Eliya Kings vs Colombo Jaguars, 2nd Match

Colombo Jaguars captain Angelo Mathews elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Avishka Fernando provided a strong start for the Nuwara Eliya Kings, but his partner, Danushka Gunathilaka, struggled to find his rhythm.

Fernando smashed a blistering 18-ball half-century, but rain interrupted play shortly after. With only 6 overs possible, the match was eventually called off.

Kandy Bolts vs Galle Marvels, 3rd Match

After opting to bowl first, the Galle Marvels reduced the Kandy Bolts to 5 for 2 within 1.4 overs. However, Dinesh Chandimal revived the innings with a sensational knock of 66 off just 25 balls, which included 7 fours and 5 sixes, taking the team to a total of 100. Binura Fernando was impressive with his pace variations, finishing with figures of 3 for 9.

In response, the Galle Marvels lost 3 quick wickets after a 36-run opening stand. However, they successfully chased down the target in 7.4 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 63-run partnership between Andre Fletcher (41* off 21) and Shakib Al Hasan (20* off 8).
