CR & FC played Havelocks SC under flood-lights in their newly renovated Longdon Place grounds — the Home of Rugby – yesterday, 8th November, marking the beginning of a what looks to be a promising future.
The two teams made this a good opportunity to get invaluable match practice prior to the beginning of the Club Rugby League, scheduled to kick off during the latter part of the month.
The game was played as 4-quarters of 20-minutes, as the two teams battled it out ferociously in their first official training hit out.
Last season Champions CR were training Havelocks at half time, 05 – 12 as the visitors ensured that the game would not be a walk over for the hosts.
Returning Sri Lanka skipper Omalka Gunaratne was a name to watch out for on the team sheet along-side former Josephian Naveen Marasinghe.
They were out played by the visiting Havelocks outfit which saw the return of Charana Chamikara as his team was captained by Abdullah Faiz.
Havelocks held on to their half time lead as they finished with 24 points to the good, as CR struck in the dying embers to put a bit of respectability on the score line as the final score read 17-24 in favour of the visitors.
Full Time: CR & FC 17 (3T, 1C) lost to Havelocks SC 24 (4T, 2C)
