Havelocks Sports Club have gone shopping prior to the beginning of the 2024/25 Club Rugby Season, signing 11 players from the schools arena to create a formidable young Havelocks outfit.

Namely, Kalindu Silva (Isipathana), Nisaja Jayaweera (Isipathana), Dinada Wickramaarachchi (Isipathana), Raul Peter (St. Peter’s), Sachinthana Waidyanatha (St. Joseph’s), B.T. Basnayake (Trinity), Thiven Perera (DS), Shem Mendis (Wesley), Janidu Wijerathna (DS), Tanvir Hassan (Royal), and Ashan De Silva (Thurstan) are the 11 players signed for the season.

Tanvir Hassan is the only player who left school a couple of years ago, while all others participated in the recently concluded Dialog Schools’ Rugby Season.

Kalindu Silva played in the Halfback position for Isipathana, with Nisaja Jayaweera as their Number 8, and Dinada Wickramaarachchi lining up in the Inside Center role.

Raul Peter was St. Peter’s pivotal fly-half, while Sachinthana Waidyanatha played on the openside for the Josephians. Thiven Perera was the captain of DS Senanayake College, and Shem Mendis captained Wesley College.

Janidu Wijerathna was the outstanding winger for DS, and Tanvir Hassan represented Royal College as a flanker in 2023.

Havelock Sports Club did not have the season they were hoping for in 2023/24, finishing 3rd in the League and runner-up in the Knockouts. They are hoping the new signings, along with the return of Charana Chamika, will make an immediate impact as they aim for a more memorable season.

The team is set to be led by Abdulla Faiz, who will no doubt be aiming to finish the 2024/25 season with silverware.
