The oarswomen of Musaeus College, marshalled by Yenushka Premaratne, laid their hands on the coveted Marie Musaeus Higgins Trophy after a six-year winless drought, beating Ladies’ College 37-15 at the 19th LC-MC Regatta, held at the Colombo Rowing Club on Saturday (5th). The Beira Waters saw a Musaeus victory for the first time since 2018. Ladies’ College was led by Hayaa Hassen.
Prior to this, Musaeus last won the Regatta in 2018 under the leadership of Mayathi Weerakoon.
Former Ladies’ College rowing captain and national oarswoman Ishara Abbey graced the event as the chief guest this year.

The current win tally after 19 encounters stands at LC – 12, MC – 6, and 1 tie.
After this year’s win, the Musaeites regained the Marie Musaeus Higgins Trophy, bringing it back to Rosmead Place from the trophy cabinets of Flower Road. The Ladies’-Musaeus encounter is the only rowing regatta rivalry between two girls’ schools in Sri Lanka. Musaeus College has been victorious in the regattas of 2005, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2024, while Ladies’ College has won all the other years, except in 2006, when the series ended in a tie.

‘A’ Double Scull: Sanindhie Mendis (B) / Senumi Hewavitharanage (S) 4:16.6 (Musaeus) won 7 points, beating Hayaa Hassen (S) / Sanindi de Silva (B) 4:20.50 (Ladies’).
‘C’ Four: Anika Perera (S), Meha Balendra (2), Chantelle Perera (3), Ranithi Samarasooriya (B), Jessica Sivapragasam (Cox) 4:26.18 (Ladies’) beat Nethumi Rajapakse (B), Hansalee Collure (2), Senudi Mendis (3), Venudi Peiris (S), Senola Shridharan 4:32.51 (Musaeus).

What happened last year in 2023?
Ladies’ College, under the captaincy of Mitali Wickramage, clinched the Marie Musaeus Higgins Trophy by defeating rivals Musaeus College at the 18th LC-MC Regatta. Ladies’ accumulated a record 39 points to 13 against Musaeus. Former Musaeite and national rowing champion Swarnamali Wijesinghe was the chief guest at the event.
