Galle CC emerged as champions in the recently concluded Invitational Tier B 3-day tournament 2024 organised by Sri Lanka cricket. 

The tournament was played with the participation of 12 teams in a round-robin format. Galle CC ended their campaign with total points of 134.44 which eventually was enough to be crowned as the champions. Leo CC and Malay CC secured the second and third places with 129.685 and 117.705 points respectively.

Kandy CC, Lankan CC, Air Force SC and Old Darmapalian SC finished in the bottom four places in the points table, as a result of it they will be demoted to the lower league (Governer’s Trophy) for the 2025 season.

The Standout performers with the bat for Galle CC throughout the season were 38-year-old allrounder Buddhika Hasarnaga and Lisula Lakshan with 504 runs and 479 runs respectively. Also, Amith Eranda stood out with the Bat for Galle by scoring 453 runs in the season

With the ball in hand, experienced campaigner Rajeewa Weerasinghe led the bowling charts for Galle CC, claiming 63 wickets. Chanaka Devinda and Ushan Manohara followed with 59 and 21 wickets respectively. 

Unfortunately due to the tournament rules, there will not be a promotion for Major League this season.

Best batters in the Tournament

Kavindu Ediriweera of United Southern Cricket Club led the batting charts with 625 runs in 18 innings. Followed by Amila Sandarawun of Lankans CC. Even though Lankans CC had a tournament to forget Amia shone brightly throughout the tournament scoring 649 runs in 19 innings. Third highest run-getter for the season was Ashen Mendis scoring 632 runs in 21 innings.

Best bowlers in the tournament 

Moratuwa SC left-arm spinner Gayan Sirisoma and Lakshitha Madushanka from Bavy SC topped the bowling charts with 77 wickets each. Due to the calculation of the economy rates Gayan Sirisoma was adjudged as the best bowler of the tournament. Madushanka Premaratne grabbed 70 wickets throughout the season becoming the third highest wicket taker of the tournament.
