Ladies’ College start as favourites; Visakha Vidyalaya determined to bring back glory

The island’s most anticipated Girls’ Water Polo match, the LC-VV encounter, the 19th version will be played between Ladies’ College and Visakha Vidyalaya on 13th September, Friday at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.  

With Ladies’ College clinching the victory last year in 2023 with a scoreline of 14-06, Visakha Vidyalaya will be determined to win back the M.N. Edussuriya Trophy once again. 

In the series tally, Visakha Vidyalaya holds the upper hand with 11 victories, whilst Ladies’ College are slowly climbing the ladder with 6 wins. 

Both teams will be captained by two Goal-keepers – Ayahna Amarasinghe for Ladies’ College and Mehansa Jayaratne for Visakha Vidyalaya.

Chrishael Robin who plays in the Bar position will be the vice-captain for Ladies’ College and they have several senior players in Treasa Adams, Aneeka Sumanathilake, Sitaraah Zuhair, Tharuki Kalansooriya and Karishma Hewavisenti.  

Supporting Mehansa, talented Arani Dorabawila will function as the Vice-Captain of the team. Players such as Rohansa Vidyaratne, Thiyumi Gunawardena, Poojani Wijesinghe, Ruwanya Dadagamuwa and Divya Aluthgama will need to step up for Visakha this Friday.  

The U15 match will commence at 2:30pm, followed by the U19 match which will be played from 4:30pm onwards.  

2011 Ladies’ College Water Polo captain Sachini Rajanayake will be the Chief Guest of the event.
