Anton Roux decided to step down from his role as National Fielding Coach of Sri Lanka Cricket, announcing on Instagram that he made the decision on August 14th.

Roux, who played first-class cricket for South Africa, left his role as Pathway Coach at Nottinghamshire County to become the National Fielding Coach for Sri Lanka Cricket in March 2022.

He also served as the Assistant Coach of the New Zealand ‘A’ side and the Head Coach of the Netherlands Men’s Cricket Team.

During his tenure, the 43-year-old witnessed Sri Lanka achieve incredible milestones, including their first ODI series win over Australia at home in 30 years and their Asia Cup successes as champions in 2022 and runners-up in 2023.

He was deeply moved by the atmosphere, the passion of the fans, and the on-field successes, all of which will remain unforgettable to him. Additionally, having spent some time with the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team, he was impressed by their eagerness to learn, competitive spirit, and athletic prowess on the field.

In his post, he mentioned, “Sri Lanka has also become a part of my family’s story. It is the birthplace of my second son, Aiden, and the care we received at Joseph Fraser Hospital in Colombo will always be a cherished memory and lasting connection to this beautiful country.”

He further added, “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Mahela Jayawardene, Tom Moody, Tim McCaskill, and Chris Silverwood for entrusting me with the responsibility of overseeing the fielding duties for the national team and SLC. As I step away from this role, I carry with me a profound respect and appreciation for Sri Lanka and its people. This journey has been one of immense learning and unforgettable moments, and I will always hold Sri Lanka close to my heart.”

Roux was also part of the Lanka Premier League 2024 as the Fielding Coach for the Galle Marvels franchise. He is set to complete his handover duties with SLC by the end of this week.
