St. Peter’s College, the defending champions, held onto their title with an unblemished record, defeating Isipathana College 06-03 in a fiercely contested title-deciding Super Round showdown of the 2024 Dialog Schools Rugby League, played at Havelock Park.

The league’s two undefeated teams clashed in a highly anticipated championship match, drawing a full house despite overcast conditions, to wrap up the Dialog Schools Rugby League season. The game started with relentless energy, as both teams delivered thrilling Rugby for the first four minutes. However, heavy rain soon arrived, turning the match into a tactical battle and slowing the pace considerably.

St. Peter’s suffered a significant setback when their Vice Captain Yumeth Shihara was stretchered off due to injury, delivering a major blow to the Bamba Brigade.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 33rd minute when St. Peter’s earned a penalty near the 40-meter line. Raul Peter stepped up and made a flawless kick, splitting the uprights and giving the Peterites a narrow lead going into the break.

St. Peter’s began the second half by extending their lead with a penalty goal from Raul Peter. After an infringement by Isipathana, Peter converted an uncomplicated kick from the tee, further solidifying St. Peter’s advantage. (IC 00 – 06 SPC)

Isipathana demonstrated patience with a series of controlled phases and earned a penalty when the Peterites were caught offside. Shahid Zumri capitalized on the opportunity, converting an easy kick to reduce the deficit to just 3 points. (IC 03 – 06 SPC)
