In an exhilarating match held at Bogambara, Dharmaraja College emerged victorious over St. Anthony’s College, securing a win with a score of 24-06.

Both teams had a slow start, missing several opportunities due to penalties. However, Dharmaraja broke the deadlock in the 28th minute. A brilliant touch-finding kick by fly-half Damsith Rathnayaka brought the ball to within 7 meters of the try line. Dharmaraja’s hooker and skipper, Nimsha Peiris, threw in cleanly at the lineout, leading to a well-formed rolling maul that St. Anthony’s were unable to stop. Wijeysinghe then scored the first try of the game. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 5-0. (DRCK 05-00 SACK)

Just before Half Time, St. Anthony’s was awarded a penalty. Omitha Dissanayaka successfully kicked for goal, adding three points and reducing the deficit to 5-3. (DRCK 05-03 SACK)

In the second half, Dharmaraja took control early, scoring their second try just six minutes in. Kavinda Jayamane crossed the try line, and Weerawansha successfully converted, extending their lead to 12-3. (DRCK 12-03 SACK)

St. Anthony’s fought back, earning another penalty. Omitha Dissanayaka once again kicked successfully, bringing the score to 12-6 and keeping his team in the game. (DRCK 12-06 SACK)

However, Dharmaraja’s physical dominance became evident as the match progressed. Skipper Nimsha PeIris scored two more tries, capitalizing on St. Anthony’s mistakes in the scrum. The first of these tries came after a fumble by the Antonians near their try line, allowing the Rajans to turn over the ball and PeIris to score. The conversion was unsuccessful, making the score 17-6. (DRCK 17-06 SACK)

In the 64th minute, another scrum error by St. Anthony’s gifted Dharmaraja a perfect attacking opportunity. The Rajans broke through the Antonian defense, and PeIris scored his second try of the match. This time, Weerawansha’s conversion was successful, bringing the final score to 24-6. (DRCK 24-06 SACK)

Dharmaraja College secured the victory with a bonus point, a much-needed win that brought relief to the team and their supporters.
