Sri Lanka Cricket is confident that opening batter Kusal Mendis’ visa issue to the USA will be sorted out soon.

Sri Lanka’s premier T20 batter did not travel with the rest of the contingent on the 14th of May as his visa to the USA has still not been processed. Along with Mendis, two more travelling reserves, Asitha Fernando and Janith Liyanage also did not travel with the team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which will be played in June in the West Indies and the USA.

“Kusal’s USA visa has not been rejected. It is still processing. The USA Embassy in Colombo has requested further documents from him pertaining to another personal matter. After he submits those documents, Kusal’s visa will be issued in the next couple of days. “ SLC CEO Ashley De Silva said at a press briefing held in Colombo on Friday.

According to reliable sources, the USA Embassy has requested information on the accident involving Kusal Mendis, a couple of years ago.

The Sri Lanka team is currently in Morrisville and have commenced their training for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which begins on the 2nd of June.

“The ICC support period for the participating countries begins on the 25th of May. But we managed to send the team two weeks in advance so that they can acclimatize to the conditions well. So, there is no delay as such. Hopefully he will join the team before the team play their warm-up games. “De Silva further stated.

Sri Lanka will play two official warm-up fixtures in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. They will take on Netherlands in the 1st warm-up game on the 28th of May in Florida before taking on Ireland in their 2nd official warm-up game against Ireland on the 31st of May.

Sri Lanka is grouped with South Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal and Netherlands in the 20-team
