Sri Lanka women’s recorded a comprehensive win over Uganda in their third game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 played today (1st of May) at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and elected to bat first in the batter-friendly conditions in Abu Dhabi.

Justifying her decision to bat first, skipper Chamari Athapaththu and her opening partner Vishmi Gunarathne laid a solid foundation by scoring 50 runs for the first-wicket partnership.

Vishmi Gunarathne went on to score an unbeaten 73 runs, taking the Sri Lankan scoreboard past 150. Hasini Perera also contributed with a valuable 30 runs, accompanying Vishmi in the process.

In reply, the Ugandan batters were clueless against the impressive Sri Lankan bowling attack. They were bowled out for just 87 runs. Fifteen-year-old Shashini Gimhani impressed with the ball by grabbing 2 wickets for 23 runs in her allocated four overs. Veteran Inoka Ranaweera and Kaveesha Dilhari also picked up 2 wickets each.

Sri Lanka will face off against the USA in their fourth and final game in the group stages on the 3rd of May at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi.
