The first Semi Final in the U19 Division I Tier ‘A’ Schools Cricket Tournament commenced today at Kirimandala Mawatha between Richmond College, Galle and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa Skipper Manuja Chanthuka won the toss and invited Richmond College, Galle to have a bat first.

Richmond College did not have the best of starts with the bat in hand – they were 4 down for 84 runs in 25 overs. Richmond College number three batter Thamindu Pradeeptha took things into his hands and scored a magnificent 191 runs to put Richmond College in a commanding position at the end of Day 1. All the other Richmond batters failed to score over 30 runs despite Thamindu doing the bulk of the scoring from the other end.

The St. Sebastian’s College bowlers had rather a long day at the office by being in the field for nearly 90 overs. The pick of the bowlers for the Sebastianites were off-spinner Nadeesh Fernando and Skipper Manuja Chanthuka. Both picked up 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively to minimise the damage done by the Richmond batters.

The game will resume for the 2nd day, with St. Sebastian’s looking to chase the mammoth 1st innings total by the Richmond College Batters.
