Sri Lanka registered a massive win over Bangladesh in the first Test to go 1-0 up in the two-match series played today (25th March), at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing a mammoth target of 511 runs to win, Bangladesh resumed their second innings at 47/5, with overnight batters Taijul Islam and Mominul Haque at the crease.
Sri Lanka managed to strike early in the day as Taijul was trapped in front by Kasun Rajitha on the first ball he faced today. Following this, Haque and Mehidy Hasan showed some resistance for the hosts, adding a 66-run partnership for the 7th wicket.
Rajitha struck once again to remove Hasan, who fell into a false stroke and nicked him off in the slip cordon. At the other end, Haque put up a stern fight and showed good composure to keep the Sri Lankan bowlers at bay.
Shoriful Islam, who came to bat at No. 9 for Bangladesh, offered Haque good support to continue the resistance, but Rajitha picked two wickets in two balls to break the resistance and bowl Bangladesh out for 182.

Rajitha was brilliant with the ball for the visitors as he claimed his second five-wicket haul in Test Cricket, while Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara shared the remaining five wickets between them.
Sri Lankan fast bowlers Rajitha, Fernando and Kumara picked up all the 20 wickets fell in Bangladesh’s innings. This is the first time that Sri Lankan fast bowlers have claimed all 20 wickets in a Test match since 1986.
The Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored centuries in both innings of this game, won the Player of the Match award.
The result lifted Sri Lanka from the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings to joint-sixth with Bangladesh. Sri Lanka were at the bottom with 0 points, while Bangladesh were at No. 4 with 12 points after two games and a points percentage of 50.
The outcome resulted in Sri Lanka securing 12 points in three games and a point percentage of 33.33, ahead of South Africa (25 per cent) and England (17.50 per cent), who are currently at the bottom of the table.
The second Test match between the two sides will be played from 30th March to 3rd April at Chattogram.
