Jannik Sinner earned his maiden Grand Slam title in stunning fashion, recovering from a two-sets-to-love deficit to claim the Australian Open 2024 men’s singles title.

The fourth seed defeated world No.3 Daniil Medvedev 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 in three hours and 44 minutes on Sunday night at Rod Laver Arena, becoming the first Italian, male or female, to win an AO singles title in the Open era and at 22, the youngest player from his nation to win a Grand Slam.
Cheered on by chants of “Ole, Ole, Ole, Sin-ner, Sin-ner” and fans bearing numerous Italian flags, Sinner outmaneuvered his foe, and celebrated match point by collapsing on his back.

The agile Italian, who had claimed victory from a two-sets deficit only once previously in his young career, is the fourth Italian to achieve singles glory at a major, joining Adriano Panatta, Francesca Schiavone and Flavia Pennetta.
