Maris Stella College, Negombo, registered an 8-wicket win over Royal College, Colombo, in their Tier A encounter of the U19 Division 1 Inter-Schools Two Day Tournament 2023/24 worked off today (26th January) at Kadiran Grounds.
Lavin Fernando and Ameesha Fernando were the chief architects of Maris Stella’s dominant win. Lavin stroked a brilliant century while Ameesha impressed with the ball, picking up 9 wickets for 67 runs.
Isipathana College recorded an innings win over Moratu Maha Vidyalaya in their Tier B encounter worked off today at Moratuwa. Kevin Samuel’s all-round show and Dasith Senal’s match-winning bowling performance were the key highlights of Isipathana’s crushing win.
Samuel shone with the bat, scoring 99 runs while picking up 4 wickets with the ball (3/17 & 1/13), and Senal grabbed 7 wickets for 64 runs in the match for Isipathana College.
The traditional encounter between Thurstan College and Maliyadeva College ended in a draw today at Kurunegala. Dimath Abeysinghe of Maliyadeva College stole the limelight in the drawn encounter, scalping a match bag of 10 wickets for 155 runs.
Meanwhile, Halangoda-Atapattu’s 5th annual cricket encounter between S. Thomas’ College and Ananda College commenced today at Mount Lavinia. Having won the toss, Thomian skipper Mahith Perera opted to bat first and posted 301 runs for 9 wickets before declaring their innings.
Nathan Caldera and Kavindu Dias starred with the bat for the host’s vital half-centuries. Kaveesha Mendis was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he bagged 4 wickets for 79 runs. Ananda College were 42/2 at the close of play on Day 1.
