After a classy Day 01 with the bat in hand, the Thomians produced a stellar bowling performance to clinch 19 wickets of the Benedictines on the 2nd day to register a thumping win.
S. Thomas’ College, who batted first, posted 353/3d in their first innings thanks to a 306 run unbroken 4th wicket stand between Skipper Mahith Perera and Dineth Gunawardana, as both of them reached the 150 run mark. In reply, St. Benedict’s College were on 47/1 at stumps of Day 01.
The Benedictines could only muster up 155 in their first innings as they lost 9 wickets for 108 runs on Day 2. Skipper Steve Arshan made a solid 56. In bowling, Kavindu Dias clinched scalps for just 33 runs for the Thomians. With the hopes of evading an innings defeat, St. Benedict’s began their 2nd innings trailing by 198 runs, but were bowled out for just 70. Abheeth Paranavidana was the chief destroyer in this innings, taking 4 for 23.
After a phenomenal show in all three areas, S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia began 2024 with an innings and 128 run victory.
