The Final of SLC Major Clubs 3-Day Tournament 2023 between Sinhalese Sports Club and Police Sports Club commenced today (08th December) at NCC Grounds in Colombo.
Police Sports Club’s Skipper Ashen Bandara opted to field first after winning the toss, but their bowlers had to toil hard in the first session as SSC opening pair Shevon Daniel and Avishka Fernando built a century stand for the first wicket.
Daniel made 56 runs off 88 balls with 7 fours before the veteran spinner Malinda Pushpakumara dismissed him at the stroke of lunch on Day 1.
Fernando continued to send the bowlers on a leather hunt as he brought up his 4th first-class century in the summit clash. Fernando departed after scoring 107 runs off 137 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes as the off-spinner Nalin Priyadarshana scalped his wicket in the 46th over of the innings.
The Skipper Nipun Dhananjaya also played a useful knock of 40 runs as SSC posted 250 runs for 3 wickets before rain stopped play for the opening day in the 63rd over.
