China and Japan in massive wins 3rd FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Women

Defending champions Japan and China, after recording massive wins on the second day of the ongoing 3rd FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Women at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, indicated that they are in good shape to go on until the every end of the tournament.

China dominated proceedings from the word go and recorded an easy 109-51 win over India, while Japan also made things look easy when they won their second match against Chinese Taipei, 87-56.

China’s Wang Zhen top scored with 24 points, while Zhang Lingge and Ha Wenxi did well the under the ring, as they netted 12 points each. For the Indians, Pandey Sakshi and Hemmige Mahesha scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, defending champions Japan, who overcame India 112-45 in their opening game, maintained their rhythm in their second game with 87-56 thumping victory over Chinese Taipei. Mizuno Hinano and Endo Kiri scored 22 and 12 points respectively. For Chinese Taipei, Fang Yu scored 11 and points while Yu-Lien scored 10 points.

Kazakhstan who lost 65-36 loss to Thailand in the opening game bounced back to beat Hong Kong in their second game, 79-52. Kovaleskaya Alexdndra top scored for the winners with 22 points, while Cheung Wa Sin top scored for the losers with 16 points.

In other matches, Thailand overcame Indonesia 71-42 while Korea defeated Malaysia 86-46.

The 3rd FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Women is the first FIBA championship to be hosted by Sri Lanka and is conducted by the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation under the guidance of FIBA. 12 nations are competing in the championship. The final is scheduled to be played next Saturday (30).
