Former Trinity Lion Captain /Coach, CR &FC Player, National Coach and National player Ajith Abeyratne has peacefully passed away last night (25th October).
In a somber announcement, the Sri Lankan rugby community mourns the loss of one of its iconic figures, Ajith Abeyratne, who peacefully passed away last night. Ajith Abeyratne was not just a rugby player; he was a legend, having left an indelible mark on the sport. A former Trinity College Lion captain, CR & FC player, National Coach, and National player, Abeyratne’s contribution to rugby in Sri Lanka was immeasurable.
Trinity College, where his rugby journey began, will forever be grateful for his service. His commitment to excellence and leadership skills were widely acknowledged. At CR & FC, he continued to shine as a prominent figure in the sport, earning respect from teammates and rivals.
Ajith’s legacy extends beyond his playing days, as he made a significant impact as the National Coach. His dedication to nurturing young talent and enhancing the national team’s performance was unparalleled.
In this challenging time, the rugby community stands with Ajith Abeyratne’s family. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon, with his body resting at A.F. Raymonds from Friday, October 27, until Monday, October 30, 2023.
