Takapuna District Cricket Club (TDCC) is the largest cricket club in the North Shore of Auckland with a playing membership of over a thousand players. TDCC teams have been very successful across all ages and stages playing in the Auckland Cricket Association (ACA) tournament grades.
The TDCC Premier Women’s team has been the winners of the ACA Premier titles for the last eight season and comprises of several Auckland Hearts players and the New Zealand White Ferns in Lauren Down and Izzy Gaze.
The TWI XI tour of Sri Lanka will be held from the 5th to the 15th of September.
The objectives of this Takapuna Women’s Invitational XI’s (TWI XI) tour of Sri Lanka are to develop and upskill the promising players that are coming through the TDCC and ACA pathway programs and prepare them for Premier and Provincial cricket in New Zealand for the future.
The average age group of this TWI XI team is seventeen years, and this team includes several regional representatives from the Auckland A, NZ Maori W XI, Auckland Academy and TDCC Premier players. Also invited to join this squad are Lucy Counsell from St Cross Symondians Club in the Hampshire League and Rishika Jaswal from the Parnell Cricket Club in Auckland.

The TWI XI will play seven games on tour at Katunayake, Hikkaduwa, Karandeniya, Thurstan College and SSC grounds. The games will be against the Sri Lanka Cricket Development XIs, Foundation of Goodness XIs and SSC Academy XI.
The TWI XI is coached by former St Joseph’s College Colombo 1st XI Captain Hashan Goonetilleke who is also the coach of the TDCC Premier Women’s team since 2021. Hashan, who is a certified NZ Cricket Level 2 coach, has been responsible for the upskilling of the majority of the players in this TWI XI.
The TWI XI tour is organised and managed by former Thurstan College 1st XI cricketer Amita Weerakoon who is also the Director of Cricket at TDCC since 2015. Amita is also the Director of Cricket at the leading cricketing school in Auckland, the Westlake Boys High School and the owner of NZSL Cricket & Tour Management company that promotes cricket tours to Sri Lanka from New Zealand and Australia.
