Sri Lanka’s star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is set to miss the Asia Cup, after sustaining a Grade 2 hamstring injury during the recently concluded Lanka Premier League.
Hasaranga sustained the injury to his right hamstring during a game versus the Jaffna Kings at the LPL. This season’s LPL saw him achieve unprecedented success, finishing as top run-scorer and wicket-taker. Despite not featuring in the final, Hasaranga also saw his side B-Love Kandy crowned champions as they beat Dambulla Aura in the final.
This is the 2nd major blow to Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup title defense hopes, with Dushmantha Chameera also ruled out of the competition due to a shoulder injury.
Kasun Rajitha and Dushan Hemantha are expected to replace the pair in the squad.
The Asia Cup is set to begin on the 30th of August in Pallekelle.
