De Mazenod College, Kandana were crowned champions of U17 Division 1 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament 2023 as they defeated Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa by 51 runs in the final of the tournament worked off today (20th August) at Kirimandala Mawatha Cricket Grounds.
After being put into bat first, De Mazenod College got off to a decent start as their opening pair Janith Karindra and Kaveen Nethmina added 58 runs for the first wicket.

However, the boys from Kandana witnessed a major batting collapse, losing the rest of the 9 wickets for just 66 runs to be bowled out for a paltry score of 124.
Suwas Ranawana and Prince Fernando were the star performers with the ball for Prince of Wales’ College as they picked up 3 wickets each.

In their turn with the bat, Prince of Wales’ College displayed an even worse batting display as they were bundled out for just 73 runs. Savinu Chanthula was the pick of the bowlers for De Mazenod College as he bagged 3 wickets for 33 runs.
