Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa and De Mazenod College, Kandana have qualified for the final of the U17 Division 1 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament 2023.

In the first semi-final encounter, Prince of Wales’ College registered a thrilling 2-wicket win over Trinity College to book their place in the final.

After been put into bat first, Trinity College posted 171/9 in the allotted 50 overs. Viduneth Dhammage and Chaniru Senaratne chipped in with useful knocks of 37 and 34 respectively while Nethul Anuhas was the start performer with the ball for the Cambrians with figures of 3 for 35.

Prince of Wales’ College chased down the target in the 48th over but lost 8 wickets as they were made to work hard in the run-chase. Pasan Cooray (38) and Oshan Maneesha (37) were the chief architects with the bat in Cambrians’ successful run-chase.

De Mazenod College registered a massive 138-run win over St. Sebastian’s College in the second semi-final encounter to secure their place in the final.

After winning the toss, De Mazenod College opted to bat first, and they got off to a shaky start losing 3 top-order wickets for just 57 runs.

De Mazenod’s No. 3 batter Thisanga Semith and No. 5 batter Shevan Menusha then revived their innings, adding a 104-run stand for the 4th wicket. Dinosh Jelon also contributed with a useful half-century as De Mazenod College posted a competitive total – 231 on the board.

Menusha was the chief scorer of De Mazenod College as he made 65 runs off 80 balls with 7 fours and a six. Malintha Silva stood out with the ball for St. Sebastian’s College, picking up 3 wickets for 31 runs.

In reply, St. Sebastian’s College had a terrible time with the bat as they were bowled out for just 93 runs, handing a massive win for De Mazenod College. Dinidu Sasmitha ripped through Sebastian’s batting lineup, picking up 5 wickets for just 25 runs.

De Mazenod College will take on Prince of Wales College in the final of the tournament on the 20th of August at ACE Capital Grounds.
