Maharoof who works as an international cricket commentator, has reportedly taken this decision as he was unable to fully commit himself to the duties of the committee due to his commentary work and family commitments.
Maharoof was part of the 5-member Technical Consultative Committee for Sri Lanka Cricket appointed two months ago to advise the Minister of Sports, Ministry officials and the National Sports Council on all matters relating to cricket in Sri Lanka.

The other members of the committee are former Sri Lanka cricketers, Sanath Jayasuriya, Charith Senanayake, Asantha de Mel and Kapila Wijegunawardhana.
