The second day of the Major Clubs 3-Day Tournament 2023 was held today (24th June) at several venues across the island.
Five batters have reached the 3-figure mark today, namely Ashen Bandara, Nuwanidu Fernando, Pawantha Weerasinghe, Lahiru Thirimanne and Sangeeth Cooray, who were top performers with the bat. Apart from them, Akila Dananjaya and Chamikara Edirisinghe stood out as they displayed some magic with the ball.

SSC’s Nuwanidu Fernando amassed a brilliant 157 off 186 against Galle, which consisted of 25 fours. Pawantha Weerasinghe of ACE Capital recorded a sensational hundred, scoring 125 against Bloomfield, while Ashen Bandara, who was representing Police, stroked 112 versus NCC. Lahiru Thirimanne, who was playing for Ragama, made an unbeaten century on his comeback to first-class Cricket, while Sangeeth Cooray of Colts also remained not out on 125 against Kandy Customs.
With the ball in hand, national-capped Akila Dananjaya dismantled the Kandy Customs batting unit with an absolutely remarkable spell of 8/61 for Colts. The Sebastianites’ Chamikara Edirisinghe took an excellent 5-wicket haul for 69 against Baduraliya.
