25 Water polo teams from 12 leading schools in Colombo will take part in the 2nd annual RCUAC Challenge Shield which is scheduled to be held on the 20th of May, 2023 at the Royal College Pool.
This is Sri Lanka’s only tournament dedicated to promoting U13, U15 and U17 Water polo teams. The Initiative by the Royal College Union Aquatic Club (RCUAC) is organized under the theme, “For the Love of the Game”.
The schools and clubs participating are Bishop’s College, Vishaka Vidyalaya, Ladies’ College, Colombo International School, Gateway College, Royal College, S. Thomas’ College, Nalanda College, St. John’s College Nugegoda, Thurstan College, D.S Senanayake College and Starfish.
The tournament is sanctioned by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union and is officiated by its elite panel of referees and judges to make sure the game is played fairly and officiated to the highest standards.
The long-term vision from having these events is to promote Water polo to as many schools as possible and in turn build a strong pool of athletes to represent Sri Lanka.
It is a sport requiring dedication to top levels of fitness, careful planning, and quick thinking. All of which are key ingredients in the make up the complete student athlete.
The RCUAC Challenge Shield and the Royal College Pool are dedicated to promoting Water polo across the country. With healthy competitions in the pool and a carnival outside, it promises to be a day to remember for families, sports enthusiasts, and young athletes looking to take up this magnificent sport of Water polo.
