Jaffna Central College emerged champions of the U19 Inter-Schools Division 3 Tier ‘A’ Two-Day Tournament 2022/23 as they defeated Maris Stella College, Thimbirigaskatuwa on the first innings in the Final, which was worked off today (11th April) at St. Joseph’s College Grounds, Colombo.
Jaffna Central College Skipper Ananthan Kajan opted to bat first after winning the toss and they managed to post 223 runs on the board thanks to a well-compiled half-century from Ranjithkumar Newton.

The opening batter Newton stroked 82 runs off 88 balls with 9 fours and a six. Vishwa Peiris was the best bowler on show for Maris Stella as he picked up 6 wickets for 72 runs.
In reply, Maris Stella College were bowled out for 181 runs for their first innings, as Sutharshan Anushanth ripped through their batting lineup, picking up 5 wickets for 38 runs.
Jaffna Central College began their second innings 42 runs ahead and posted 216 runs, setting a challenging target of 259 runs for Maris Stella College to win. Ananthan Kajan starred with the bat for the lads from Jaffna with a vital half-century.

Vishwa Peiris of Maris Stella College, who showcased his skills with the ball in the first innings, took 6 wickets once again to produce a stunning spell, picking up 7 wickets for 82 runs and taking his match tally to 14 wickets for 144 runs.
In the pursuit of a target of 259 runs, Maris Stella College posted 60 runs for 2 wickets at the close of play on day two.
