Former Sri Lanka Women’s Cricketer Melani Abyesinghe (also known as Hiroshi Abeysinghe) has been appointed as the head coach of Qatar National Women’s Cricket Team.
Abeysinghe will be deployed as the Head Coach of Qatar National Women’s Cricket Team under a 2-year contract. It will be the first time a Sri Lankan woman takes charge of a national cricket side.

The former Sri Lanka batter is a product of St. Paul’s Girls School, Milagiriya and represented the national Women’s cricket team in 31 ODIs during 2000-2016. Since retiring from playing international cricket, she has accumulated various coaching qualifications. She was the first Sri Lankan woman to be accredited as a qualified ICC level 1 & level 2 cricket coach (UKCC 2) by the England & Wales Cricket Board.
She has also worked as the head coach of Navy Women’s cricket team and Army Women’s cricket team in the domestic circuit.
