Viyaskanth joins Rajasthan Royals as net bowler

The leg-spinner from Jaffna, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth has been invited to join Rajasthan Royals as a net bowler for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2023 season.

In the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League, held in 2020, Jaffna Stallions’ Vijayakanth Viyaskanth became the first ever Jaffna-born cricketer to play in the LPL. After two years in the shadow of Wanindu Hasaranga, Viyaskanth played a crucial role in the recent LPL 2022 season for Jaffna Kings where they lifted the trophy for the 3rd consecutive time.

The 22-year-old leg spinner played his maiden overseas franchise league recently for Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League 2023.

Former Sri Lankan Captain and wicket-keeper batter, Kumar Sangakkara is Director of Cricket and Head Coach of Rajasthan Royals since 2021. Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan fast bowler, Lasith Malinga is their bowling coach since 2022 season, where they became the runners-up in the IPL 2022.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to kick off from 31st of March and to be held till 28th of May with a total of 74 matches including playoffs.

Working under experienced guys like Sangakkara, Malinga and R. Ashwin throughout the season will undoubtedly be a significant moment for this young lad.
