The fifth and final week’s matches of the National Super League 4-Day Tournament 2023 continued for day two today (17th February) at Galle and Hambantota.
Colombo vs Dambulla
Team Dambulla resumed day two at 297/6 with the veteran middle order batter Ashan Priyanjan remaining unbeaten on 100 at the crease. Priyanjan was the first to be dismissed on day two as the off-spinner Dushan Vimukthi trapped him in front for 114 runs.
Chamindu Wijesinghe and Ranitha Liyanaarachchi chipped in with 20s batting down the order as Team Colombo posted a solid score of 341 for their first innings. The speedster Himesh Ramanayake was the pick of the bowlers for Team Colombo as he picked up 4 wickets for 76 runs.
In reply, Team Colombo got off to an excellent start thanks to their opening pair Krishan Sanjula and wicket-keeper batter Navindu Nirmal who stitched together a 77-run stand for the first wicket.
However, after an impressive start, Team Colombo witnessed a major batting collapse losing 4 wickets for 21 runs and being restricted to 98/4.
Wicket-keeper batter Kusal Janith Perera was seen in action today for Team Colombo, returning after a lengthy injury layoff, but it was a poor return for the southpaw on his comeback as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
The experienced campaigner Roshen Silva and Pramod Maduwantha steadied the ship adding a 46-run unbeaten stand for the 7th wicket as Team Colombo finished day two at 208/6. The seamer Lahiru Samarakoon was brilliant with the new ball as he picked up 4 wickets for 54 runs, creating chaos in Colombo’s top order.
