None of the 15 Sri Lankan players who were shortlisted for the inaugural Women’s Premier League draft were sold at the auction held yesterday (13th).
The following players appeared in the draft
Chamari Athapatthu, Anushka Sanjeewani, Inoka Ranaweera, Nilakshi de Silva, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Malsha Shehani, Kaveesha Dilhari, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Achini Kulasuriya, Udeshika Prabodani, Tharika Sewwandi, Sugandika Dasanayake, Inoshi Fernando
All 15 of the players had registered at a base price of 30 lakh INR. Of the omissions, skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s has to be the most surprising as the batting all-rounder’s name did not draw bids from any of the 5 franchises.

Athapaththu has had a stellar run at the T20 World Cup in South Africa so far, smashing a half-century in Sri Lanka’s upset win over South Africa, before bowling an impactful spell in the team’s win over Bangladesh.
Inoka Ranaweera was another Sri Lankan player who had an outside chance of being picked, but she too drew no bids at the auction. The left-arm spinner has had a prolific run in international cricket over the last 12 months, taking 31 wickets in 21 games.
The auction saw a total of 448 players shortlisted, of which the five franchises had the option of picking squads of 18 (12 local, 6 overseas), making it a total of 60 local and 30 overseas players in the entire competition. All 5 teams picked their full quota of 6 overseas players, with Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorsz picking 17 and 16 players in total.

A number of big names in International Cricket went unsold, including Suzie Bates (NZ), Laura Wolvaardt (SA) and Alana King (AUS).
Smriti Mandhana, the 1st buy of the day, unsurprisingly finished as the most expensive player at 3.5 Crore INR, bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
