Veteran Sharmal Dissanayake and teenager Sajida Razick clinched the Men’s and Women’s singles titles respectively at the First Capital SSC Open Ranking Tennis Championship 2023. The finals were held at the SSC Tennis Courts on the 22nd of January (Sunday).

Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup player Dissanayake won the exciting four-setter (6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6) final against Chathurya Nilaweera. Having won the first set 6-4, Dissanayake was given a stiff challenge by Nilaweera, who won the second set. However, Dissanayake sealed the game winning the third and fourth sets.
In the Women’s Singles final, Bishops College tennis star Saajid Razick recorded a smashing straight set 6-3, 6-4 win against Neyara Weerawansa.
Dissanayake was awarded with the Arjun Fernando Challenge Trophy, whilst Razick won the Sriya Munasinghe Challenge Trophy.
In the semi-finals, Dissanayake defeated Gayanga Weerasekara, whilst Nilaweera edged out Kiran Vairawanathan. Razick booked her place in the final beating Vishmi Serasinghe in the semi-finals and Weerawansa, the losing finalist defeated Dinara De Silva in her semi-final clash.
