Three 2-day encounters of U19 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (24th December) at several venues across the island.

Richmond College registered an innings win over Maliyadeva College in their Tier ‘A” two day encounter ended today at Dombagoda. Maliyadeva College posted only 143 runs for their first innings in reply to Richmond College’s 249, thus were asked to follow on trailing by 106 runs, but the boys from Kurunegala faltered once again with the bat being bowled out for 61 runs.

Yuri Koththigoda, Sharon Abhishek and Tharinda Nirmal were all brilliant with the ball as they picked up 3 wickets each for the Richmondites.

Prince of Wales College managed to claim first innings points against Nalanda College in their Tier ‘A’ two day encounter which ended in a draw today at Nalanda College Grounds in Colombo.

After being 123/3 at stumps on day one, the visitors displayed a brilliant batting performance on day two posting 394/7 going past Nalanda College’s first innings total of 208.

The Cambrian opening batter Tharindu Amarasinghe and No. 4 batter Sumalka Fernando stroked superb centuries in the visitors’ dominant batting effort. Amarasinghe played an aggressive knock scoring 152 runs off 108 balls with 14 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 140.74. Fernando’s innings was a craftier one where he scored 117 runs off 182 balls with 13 fours.

Nalanda College showcased a better batting display in the 2nd innings posting 203/5 thanks to the contributions of Rusiru Vilochana (91) and Yasiru Samarakoon (49).
