Burgher Recreation Club (BRC) emerged champions of the Malay CC invitational six-a-side cricket tournament as they defeated Malay Cricket Club by 5 wickets in the final of the tournament played at MCA Grounds.
The tournament was organized to celebrate Malaya Cricket Club’s 150th anniversary. Malay CC, who won the Governor’s Trophy Two Day Tournament, posted 44 runs for 4 wickets in 5 overs in the final.
BRC comprehensively chased down the target in just 2.3 overs without losing a single wicket. The veteran batter T. M. Sampath stroked a match winning knock of 42 runs for the victorious BRC team.

Sampath won the best batsman award for his heroics while Danal Hemananda of BRC won the best bowler award.
The victorious BRC team comprised of T. M. Sampath, Dushan Hemantha, Lahiru Samarakoon, Leo Francisco, Danal Hemananda, Resansora Silva, Malinda Jayod, and Dulaj Ashen.
Meanwhile, SSC won the Plate championship defeating Moors SC by 5 wickets in the final. Batting first, Moors SC posted 66 runs for 4 wickets which was easily chased down by SSC in 4 overs, without losing a wicket. Krishan Sanjula, who hit 37 runs, and Kalana Perera who grabbed 2 wickets for 3 runs were the chief architects of SSC’s victory.
