St. Anthony’s beat Mahanama to reach Semi-Finals

St. Anthony’s College, Kandy qualified to the Semi-Finals of U19 Schools Division 1 Tier A Limited Overs Tournament as they defeated Mahanama College in the Quarter Final encounter played today (22nd November) at Colombo.

Batting first, Mahanama College had a terrible time with the bat as they were bowled out for just 131 runs. Kaveesha Piyumal and Thisara Ekanayake wrecked Mahanama batting lineup picking up 3 wickets each for the Antonians.

The target of 132 seems easy on paper, but it wasn’t to be the case as the Antonian batters also struggled at the middle. However, the lads from Kandy finally managed to cross over the line in the 39th over with 3 wickets in hand.

Mohammed Aaqil played a match winning knock holding one end with the bat for St. Anthony’s College as he made an unbeaten 80 runs guiding his team to the victory. With this result, the Semi-Finalists are confirmed from Division 1 Tier A segment as St. Anthony’s College (Kandy), St. Benedict’s College (Kotahena), Trinity College (Kandy) and Richmond College (Galle) secured their places in the Semis.
